So.... I have hung in there for the first trimester! No problems, complications, and hardly any morning sickness. I actually didn't see the doctor till yesterday and she confirmed I was about 14 weeks, and I heard the heartbeat!! Quite exciting.
There was- of course- the discussion about testing for Down's. Apparently it would have to be next week but I think dh and I are quite settled that this is a faith issue for us. Plus there are too many false results, which can cause so much anxiety, and then if you do find out it is positive, the rest of the pregnancy is grieving, which I wouldn't want.
I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings who might have a down's child, but since I am in pretty much the highest risk category possible, (around 5% births my age, in the stats) I do have concerns....and if I think about it too much, downright fretful. Any advice?
Believe it or not, I have not told anyone yet! I really wanted to make it past the first trimester. THis will be interesting since my son's wife and I will be pregnant together...grandma is going to be a new mommy!not sure she will want me to 'steal her thunder' but it might be fun!(SHe's due almost 2 months ahead of me).
It's finally settling in that this is real, a little baby bump is growing and I feel some movement. Although I still "can't believe" this has happened. LOL. The doctor seemed encouraged that the heartbeat was nice and steady, so I was too. I actually wept with relief on the way home. :*)
Keep us in your prayers, I will keep updating you special ladies. Thanks for being here!

Congratulations, Christal! How wonderful! Double congrats on the g-baby!
I am with you on the testing. I will decline when the time comes...I never have that. Even my OB says it isn't entirely accurate. He and his wife indeed had the experience of an abnormal reading, an U/S that showed markers for Down's, counseling for genetic testing...a nightmare. She was scheduled for amnio, didn't feel right about it when they got to the office, and walked out. Their baby was NOT a Down's baby. So he offers the tests because he is required to.
May the remainder of your pregnancy be as perfect as the first 14 weeks have been, and may you enjoy to the full the blessings of 2 blessed children in your home!

mom to 10 wonderful children and 1 super son-in-law!

Thanks Bonnie! Coming from someone who has been there, it means a lot. BTW, did you think I have 2 children? Actually, I have 7 between the ages of 6-25, 6 sons and then a daughter. Having the 7th be a girl seemed like God's way of a grand finale -
However here I am 7 years later and still in shock that He had other plans. He showed me today I must be strong and courageous - definitely not in my natural state! And also that He has called me to be a mother of many - and multiple generations, apparently.
With this baby, I would like to know the gender though. Thinking back on the last pregnancy, I would have enjoyed Desiree much more, being settled with the fact of my first daughter after years of sons. Instead I was simply stunned that *finally* a little girl had arrived. Happy, though!

Christal, I am so glad things are going well for you! Personally, I have never had any of the tests done and I refused to dwell on any potential negatives. I do remember having to battle against those thoughts at times though. What helped me more than anything else was to dwell on God's positive promises. (As I shared in some of the articles I posted on this site.)
Ultimately, He is ALWAYS worthy to be trusted and worrying about anything won't change a thing, but it could have negative effects upon our own health and enjoyment of the pregnancy.
I tried to focus on eating healthfully, getting enough rest, filling myself with His Word, and thinking each day of all the things I had to be thankful for in my life.
I will continue to keep you and your precious baby in prayer!
Blessings,
Tamara (mom of seven; grandma to two so far!)

You special bundle of joy is a true gift from the Lord. I would focus on the positive things. I remembered when I was pregnant, the doctor main topic was on negative things, age, eggs, etc. Everything will work out fine....dee
