I NEVER thought I'd be posting back here.....
almost 7 years after our daughter was born at age 40. I thought I was going into perimenopause but it turns out today I have a positive test at 47. I am so......embarassed, shocked, dismayed?? How many here have had successful pregnancies at my age, I will be almost 48 when baby arrives, and a new grandmother to boot! Please pray for us, we don't mean to be unthankful but thought this period of our lives was over, and were trying to avoid pregnancy until we became "overconfident" and "careless".
How can overcome the social stigma of this? I'm afraid of what my 80 year old mother will say, etc, etc,. I'm overwhelmed and so anxious and struggling.

I can't believe I missed this until now, Christal! I hope you are feeling a little more used to the exciting news. I know it's a lot to take in when you have a surprise pregnancy and were already thinking in terms of being a grandmother for the first time, etc., I've been there! Laughing

But God's grace is SO SUFFICIENT! Forget what anyone says or thinks...this baby is a gift from God and in HIS plans. He has a purpose for this baby's life! He is worthy to be trusted!

Surround yourself with people who will give you positive support and dwell on the positive promises of God. Don't allow the enemy to rob you of your joy! It's natural to feel kind of crazy and conflicted right now --remember the hormones have a lot to do with that! Go easy on yourself and make sure you're getting enough rest and eating healthfully. The Lord has everything taken care of! Smile

I will definitely be praying for you! Please keep me updated on any specifics you need prayer for and know that I am trusting God with you!

My little surprise baby will turn nine next month and oh what a glorious blessing she has been every single day of her life!!!!

With love and hugs and continued prayers,
Tamara

Blessings,
Tamara (mom of seven; grandma to two so far!)

One more thing...about your age...it still seems plenty young to me! Smile

I once did some research on becoming pregnant *naturally* after fifty and discovered all sorts of amazing stats!

In spite of all the media attention about how difficult it is to conceive naturally in one's forties, women are still urged to be "responsible" about taking birth control until they're positive they've completed menopause. That must mean they realize it can still happen! Smile

For me, it was easier to have faith in God to work out all the details because I did conceive naturally after forty. It wasn't anything we'd planned. Since He allowed this "miracle" to take place, I concluded that He could be trusted to take care of us. And He did. Beautifully!

Blessings,
Tamara (mom of seven; grandma to two so far!)

1956: Ruth Kistler of Portland, Oregon gave birth to a daughter in Los Angeles, California on October 18, 1956, at the age of 57. The birth predated the advent of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) making Kistler one of the oldest women known to have conceived naturally.

1981: Leontina Albina of San Antonio, Chile, born 1926, gave birth to her child in 1981, at the age of 55, after a natural conception.

1987: Kathleen Campbell of Kimberley, Nottinghamshire gave birth to a son in 1987 at the age of 55, having conceived naturally.

1997: Dawn Brooke of Guernsey gave birth to a son by caesarian section on August 20, 1997, at the age of 59. She became pregnant unexpectedly, initially mistaking the symptoms she experienced for cancer, and is the oldest mother currently known to have conceived naturally. It has been speculated that the hormone replacement therapy which Brooke had may have contributed to her ability to ovulate past menopause.

Now...doesn't 47 and 48 seem pretty young by now? Wink

Christal! First of all, congratulations and BIG hugs! I know you are in shock, but this is a pretty amazing thing!

I have a dear friend who delivered her last baby on her oldest's 21st birthday. She was 45. It was a hard pregnancy for her, but that young man is the joy of their lives. He is their tenth child, but just as loved as all the rest. Her testimony is that she never thought she would have the physical or spritual strength to do another child, and she didn't. God gave her just what she needed.

Hang in there!

Congratulations Christal!! I just wanted to post a word of encouragement to you. While I had my four children in my 30's my very best friend had her fifth child at age 47. She was shocked too but this has been such a blessing to their entire family. Her daughter will be 5 in April. Her children are 25, 24, 21, 15 and 5. Dad has often been mistaken for grandpa and my friend may have been mistaken for grandma but no one has ever said anything. She has mentioned that when she takes her dd to Cubbies (AWANA) all the other moms are very young. Socially she doesn't fit with them but she's fine with that because she has an established friend base. Her dd is super smart and verbal. I think much of that is because her entire family is mature and there is lots of interaction. I'll be praying for you!!! Smile

Christal,
My "caboose" is just a month old. I am 46 and my youngest babe is 6.5. To say this was a total shock doesn't begin to describe the horror and excitement of a surprise pregnancy.

There are great benefits to being an older mom. The number one benefit during pregnancy is I knew when to say "when". I didn't get overtired and didn't take on too many commitments because I was able to be realistic.

Also, I have been able to shower and take naps everyday because there are many willing and trusty older sibs to take care of our littlest one. No more sticking the baby someplace safe and letting them cry so I can run to the bathroom. I hated that. You knew they were safe, and you knew you had to go to the bathroom, but the sad cries....well, no more.

Also, as I was up last night....rather than having the baby years stretched out before me in an endless, mindnumbing continuum, I was better able to appreciate that there is only a few weeks of unpredictable late nights before you can settle into a pattern. This time is much more precious.

I also think I have a greater appreciation for the miracle of life because I do know how many things can go wrong.

Congratulations. It is a HUGE adjustment, but very worth it.

In Him, Tracy

Thanks everyone for such wonderful, inspiring and encouraging responses. I'll admit the first week after finding out, I "kicked against the pricks" - in a big way. Confused But I'm starting to surrender more, and get over the shock, although the adjustment does hurt. We haven't told anyone yet and probably won't for a while...I'm around 7 weeks today, and all seems mormal.Except for feeling like a geriatric new mom. roll:
But My husband has been so good in helping me, bearing the burden and lifting my arms. He seems so much more able to roll with the punches than I do. God must have a reason and plan in this... I believe I will print out these responses, and I still have Tamara's scriptures/articles printed out(from 6 years ago, lol ) I'll keep you all updated, and I SO appreciate your prayers! Support is precious at times like this!

Christal, I have been just so thrilled for you all day long ever since I found out your news! Maybe you should bring out your other children's newborn baby photos and allow yourself to picture your newest little one and how she or he will be --just think of the joy of holding your very own baby in your arms again! The fun of buying new little baby clothes! The pampering you can give yourself without guilt as you take care of yourself during the pregnancy and nursing period. Smile Oh, it sounds just wonderful to me! Laughing

I still get baby fever from time to time and I saw the sweetest little babies when I was out shopping today. So precious!

Will keep you in prayer for sure!

With love and hugs,
Tamara

I removed it, Christal. After rereading it, I just felt it might bring up unnecessary worries! I'm sorry if you wanted to print it. Please feel free to share it verbally. If you like, I could reproduce it I'm sure.

I'm glad you found it encouraging!

Hi bonnie,
Yes, I did find encouragement in your post because of the same feelings and spiritual struggle you experienced and conquered. I am aware of the statistics and leave the outcome in God's hands and already know how 'weird' I am (LOL) so nothing really overly worries me at this point. Razz That may change as more of the shock wears off though.
Don't worry about re-posting, it's just great to know support is here!
Very Happy

Hi Christal Smile

I had a "surprise" at age 46. BTW her name is Crystal Very Happy

I was shocked as you've been, but it's part of God's plan and He will give you the grace you need. It's good to hear that you are adjusting and your hubby is being a help. Trust in God's promises for He knows just what you need.

Love and prayers,
Char
